Video: Mallorca, Cabrera – May/June 2016

Now English

In our last video, we went from the Spanish mainland to the Balearic Islands. We had a very relaxed trip to Formentera and Ibiza, together with Nina and Arndt.

In Santa Eularia the guys had to leave again – a pity, but we’ll see you again!

Maren had to go to Germany for a few days, too. Matthias meanwhile was accompanied by Christine and Franziska, who showed him around the whole island: the girls spend their holidays here for years and know everything, from hippie market to the highly recommended „El Bigotes“ in Cala Mastella. Thanks ladies, that was great!

When Maren was back, we explored the island by car – all those tiny and beautiful beaches now in June still empty. So nice!

But Mallorca was calling: Cornelia, Marcel and Gino whom we met last winter in La Linda were waiting with their Lagoon 39 MARELIA.

In a windless hop we headed over to Mallorca to Cala de Santa Ponca, where we dropped the anchor at a depth of 5 meters, right next to MARELIA.

This MARELIA-VAST reunion is a highlight, but we also understand why so many people are enthusiastic about Mallorca: the island is simply impressive, not only from the water side!

Port Andraitx isn’t overrun in this pre season, but you can guess what’s going on in the high season.

After a couple of nights we move on  to Palma, provisioning and city surveys are on our schedule, we both haven’t been here before. Nice restaurants, super nice city! We enjoy it before our leave to the bay of Palmanova, then fhead on  to the nature reserve of Isla Cabrera.

To Moore here we had to order a buoy online, what we did (and payed for). But at arrival and checkin the officials told us that there was no reservation or buoy for VAST, the reservation for us wasn’t really done. But still we were lucky and people were very friendly (quite slow, though), it just took some patience at the office–after all, we were allowed to stay for three nights, and it’s worth it!

We took an island tour with a professional guide. It’s a barren landscape with  rather military history, but still it’s exciting to learn about live and nature here. It’s planned to significantly increase the area of the nature reserve. This will not make sailing easier, since the buoys are limited and anchoring prohibited, but for the underwater world this is certainly a good decision.

We enjoy the time here– two things finally let us untie the lines: we have only moderate network connection – and boats are not allowed to stay longer than 3 days 🙂

After a fantastic time with MARELIA, we leave to Mallorca, this time as a regatta, in which MARELIA shows some performance advantage (VAST is not without chance, they just sail so well!).

We head to Portocolom and take a buoy for some nights. We visit the „Coves del Drach“ with the largest underground lake in Europe, and we enjoy our last days with MARELIA with nice barbecues and one or the other bottle of nice Rosés.

We know you shouldn’t do it as a sailor, but finally we have to leave for another appointment, back to the mainland, to Barcelona. Maren’s parents come for a visit, and for beginning of July we’re planning to be up north to the French coast at Marseille.

So we bid farewell to MARELIA and the Balearic Islands–we will be back and see you again!

Have fun with the video!
