Video: Zakynthos to Corfu  – August 2017

Die Ionischen Inseln sind ein bemerkenswertes Revier – aber das schrieben wir ja schon.
Wenn wir uns über irgendetwas beschweren können, dann war das die Erkenntnis, dass „Naturschutzgebiet“ nicht immer mit „sauber“ gleichzusetzen ist.
(Dabei sind wir gleichzeitig nicht sicher, ob der ölig-teerige Belag, der durch die Anker-Bucht von Zakynthos schwamm, nicht doch von den Waldbränden herrührte.)
Jedenfalls schwamm an der Wasseroberfläche vor dem Keri-Beach, Zakynthos ein ein klebrig-schwarz-schillerndes Zeug. Das legte sich in Brocken und Fäden an den Rumpf von VAST, das SUP und natürlich das Dinghy. Ein Entfernen war nur mit Lösungsmittel (in unserem Fall Fenderreiniger) möglich. Wasser, Seife – Fehlanzeige. Nach dem zweiten Vorfall, bei dem wir aber schnell genug waren, wenigstens SUP und Dinghy aus dem Wasser zu nehmen, haben wir die Flucht ergriffen und sind zurück in den Hafen gegangen.
Wie gesagt, wir sind nicht sicher, wo die Ursache dafür liegt, aber es war wirklich unangenehm! (Über die Schildkröten, die ja hier hier Refugium haben sollen, möchten wir dabei gar nicht nachdenken…)

Dennoch war Zakynthos ein Erlebnis, vor allem mit dem Besuch der Kids. Aber die nächste Verabredung wartete auf Korfu, wir mussten uns also wieder auf den Weg machen. Über Kefalonia, Lefkada, Meganisi, Preveza, Parga und Ormos Valtu ging es zurück nach Korfu. Wir bekamen einen kurzen Besuch von Marens Freundin Kim mit Alex und Patenkind Ernesto und machten einen Ausflug nach Kanoni mit beeindruckendem Blick auf die startenden und landenden Flugzeuge von Korfu-Stadt.

Dann gab’s Besuch von unseren Eltern. Wir haben sie der Bequemlichkeit halber in einem Hotel in der Nähe der Marina Gouvia untergebracht und Korfu mit dem Mietwagen unsicher gemacht. Quer und längs ging‘s über die Insel – immer wieder spannend, wie unterschiedlich die Wahrnehmung ist, wenn man auf See- oder Landseite unterwegs ist.

The Ionian Islands are a remarkable for sailing – but we already told you about that.
If we would complain about anything, then there’s the realization that „nature reserve“ is not always equated with „clean“.
(At the same time we are not sure if the oil-tarred carpet, which floated through the anchor-bay of Zakynthos, did not come from the forest fires.)
Anyway, at in front of Keri Beach, Zakynthos we encountered this sticky-black and dazzling stuff. It stack to VAST‘s hull, the SUP and the Dinghy in black stinky chunks and threads. Removal was only possible with solvent (in our case fender cleaner). Water, soap – nothing else helped. In the second incident we were fast enough to take the SUP and the dinghy out of the water, we took flight and went back to the harbour.
As I said, we’re not sure what the cause was, but it was really unpleasant! (We don’t even want to think about the turtles that are supposed to have a refuge here…)

Nevertheless, Zakynthos was an experience, especially with the visit of the kids. But the next appointment was waiting on Corfu, so we had to leave again. We drove back via Kefalonia, Lefkada, Meganisi, Preveza, Parga and Ormos Valtu.

Back at Corfu we enjoyed a short visit from Maren’s friend Kim with Alex and godchild Ernesto, and made a trip to Kanoni, providing an impressive view on the taking off and landing planes at Corfu City.

Then we had a visit from our parents. For their convenience they stayed in a hotel close to the Marina Gouvia and we spent the days exploring Corfu with a rental car.

We crisscrossed the island – it’s always exciting, how different the perception is when you are exploring from the sea or land side. We‘ve had  a lot of fun with you guys!
