Wir verbringen viel mehr Zeit auf und um Korfu herum, als geplant – wir wollten eigentlich über den Korinth-Kanal nach Athen und rund Peloponnes segeln – aber wir wissen Anfang der Saison noch nicht, dass auch in vier Wochen mit verschiedenen Technikern der Autopilot nicht wieder laufen wird.
Also tingeln wir Montag bis Donnerstag um Korfu herum, Freitag bis Sonntag müssen wir immer raus aus der Marina, da ist Crew-Wechsel der Charterboote, Privatschiffe sind dann in Gouvia nicht willkommen. Oder es gibt keine Plätze. Wie auch immer.
Schließlich entscheiden wir uns, einfach zwischen den Ionischen Inseln zu bleiben und legen unsere Familienbesuche einfach ganz in den Süden nach Zakynthos und gegen Ende der Saison wieder nach Korfu.
Für den Start nach Süden segeln wir über Paxos, Lefkas, Meganisi und Ithaka nach Zakynthos.
Der Wind hat seine ganz eigenen Gesetzmäßigkeiten, ist er tagsüber meist schwach, Briest es am Nachmittag vor allem in den Buchten deutlich auf.
Das sorgt für die meisten Crews bei der Ankunft am Zielort immer wieder für Hektik, das Anlegen an den Betonpiers wird zum Schauspiel. Wir gehen einfach vor Anker, abgesehen von manchmal krautigem Grund klappt das auch bei sehr viel Wind immer problemlos.
Schließlich treffen wir Nelly, Chiara und Max, zum Onboarding mal in der Marina von Zakynthos. Wir verteilen die Drei in den Heckkabinen und Salon und verholen uns weiter nach Süden ins Naturschutzgebiet. Es wird eine tolle Woche zwischen Strand und Inseln, wir machen einen Ausflug über Zakynthos zur Shopwreck-Bay, es wird geschnorchelt, geSUPt und gechillt. Insgesamt eine super schöne Zeit zwischen Marina und dem Naturschutzgebiet: kommt gern wieder, ihr Drei!
Die Ionische Inselwelt ist jedenfalls traumhaft, das Wasser klar, die Tavernen nett und idyllisch gelegen. Die heftigen Winde am Nachmittag kennt man dann irgendwann und sucht sich entsprechende Buchten.

We spend much more time on and around Corfu than planned–we actually wanted to sail via the Corinth Canal to Athens and around Peloponnese. But at the beginning of the season we had no clue that the autopilot won’t run again in four weeks after consulting four different technicians…
So we go around Corfu Monday to Thursday, Friday to Sunday we have to leave the marina: that’s when the crews of the charter boats change, private ships are not welcome in Gouvia then. Or there’re no berths. However.
One day when realizing that time is running out on us, we decide to simply stay between the Ionian Islands and have our family visits all the way down south on Zakynthos and later back to Corfu towards the end of the season.
For the start to the south we sail via Paxos, Lefkas, Meganisi and Ithaka to Zakynthos.
The wind follows its very own laws here, it is usually weak during the day, picking up at noon, especially in the bays where the small marinas are located. For most of the crews, this often causes some stress when they arrive at their destination, while mooring at the concrete piers becomes a spectacle.
We simply drop anchor and apart from sometimes nerving weedy grounds, this works without any problems even in very strong winds.
Finally we meet Nelly, Chiara and Max on Zakynthos, for once in the marina. The three of them find their places in the stern cabins and saloon and we untie the lines to move further south to the nature reserve.
We spend a great week between beach and islands, have a road trip over Zakynthos to Shopwreck-Bay, do some snorkeling, SUPing and chilling. All in all a wonderful time between Marina and the nature reserve: please visit again, all of you!
The Ionian islands are fantastic, the water is clear, the taverns are nice and idyllically situated. Except for the strange winds in the afternoons some time the Ionian Sea calls for a next time!
