„Was lange währt, wird endlich gut“ Genau, finden wir auch!

Seit April schwamm VAST war getauft und wir wohnten schon an Bord. Aber von unserem ersten Bootsbau hatten wir ja eine Ahnung, dass „im Wasser“ nicht „fertig“ bedeutet.

Mehr oder weniger nebenbei haben wir die Arbeit an Bord begleitet, es blieb uns auch nichts übrig, als ganz nah an Mechanikern, Möbeltischlern und Bootsbauern, Elektrikern und Klempnern dran zu sein. Ach ja, „neues Boot, neue Technik“ — wir bekamen auch erste Einführungen in die Bootssysteme und haben in ersten „Fahrstunden“ Einparken und Hafenmanöver gelernt.

Den ganzen Mai und einen guten Teil des Juni dauerte es noch, alle Restarbeiten abzuschließen.

Wir hatten außerdem sowieso alle Hände voll zu tun: nach der  Bootstaufe und „10 Jahre Vast Forward“ war ein Event mit dreißig Frauen aus Marens Ladies Mentoring Club zu organisieren – neben unserem Arbeitsalltag mit unseren Vast Forward Projekten.

Wir waren jedenfalls wirklich froh, als nach der „Outremer Week“ (einer Einführungsveranstaltung für Neueigner und Interessierte, auf der wir einen Vortrag übers Langfahrtsegeln gehalten haben) und der Spaßregatta Outremer Cup (23 Outremer-Katamarane segeln ein Wochenende im Regatta-Modus) VAST schließlich wieder vollständig eingeräumt war und wir uns langsam aber sicher aufs Ablegen vorbereiten konnten.

Am 24. Juni haben wir proviantiert und den Freunden und Bekannten der letzten acht Monate Tschüß gesagt – wir sind nicht ganz sicher, ob da in der Werft auch Erleichterung zu spüren war, dass wir endlich den Hafen verlassen 🙂

Unser grober Plan sah vor, nach Osten zu segeln, noch einmal an Marseille vorbei in die Calanques und nach Saint Mandrier, um Freunde zu besuchen. Dann weiter die Französische Küste entlang bis nach Italien und der Italienischen Küste nach Süden folgen. Ziel für den Winter ist Sizilien, aber als wir gestartet sind, waren es noch 4 Monate bis dahin.

In April (2018) our new office, our floating home, hit the water, VAST was baptized and we finally moved on board.

But from our first boat building we had an idea that „in the water“ does not mean „finished“. The whole of May and a good part of June still needed to complete all the remaining work.

We also had our hands full anyway: besides the christening and „10 years Vast Forward“, an event with thirty women from Maren’s Ladies Mentoring Club had to be organized – apart from our daily work with our Vast Forward projects.

So we accompanied the works on board, living close to mechanics, cabinetmakers and boat builders, electricians and plumbers. And yes, „new boat, new technology“ – we also got first introductions to the boot systems and had some „driving lessons“, parking and port maneuvers.

All in all, May and June were full of diverse, equally important tasks – so we were really happy when, after the „Outremer Week“ (an introductory event for new owners and interested parties, where we held a talk on living on a boat) and the fun regatta Outremer Cup (23 outremer catamarans sail a weekend in regatta mode) VAST was finally loaded with all our stuff from the storage again and we were able to slowly but surely prepare to untie the lines.

On June 24th we provisioned and said our goodbyes to friends and acquaintances of the past eight months – not sure if there was also relief in the yard, that we finally leave the port 🙂

Our rough plan was to sail east, once again past Marseilles to the Calanques and Saint Mandrier to visit friends. Then continue along the French coast to Italy and the Italian coast to the south. The destination for the winter is Sicily, but when we started that was still four months away.
